Quantum Undergraduate Research Experience at CHTM (QU-REACH)

The QU-REACH Program at the University of New Mexico is a ten-week summer undergraduate research program run by the Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) and academic departments on UNM’s Main Albuquerque campus.

The first QU-REACH program was held in 2021 (2021 UNM Newsroom article, 2023 Update, 2024 article). So far 39 students have participated in QU-REACH from 6 schools (UNM, NMSU, NMT, NM Highlands, San Juan College, CNM) and 11 majors (Physics, Astro, Chem, ChemE, MechE, CS, EE, CompE, NucE, Biochem, Math). See photos from the 2023 poster session.

The 4th annual QU-REACH program will take place May 28 - August 2, 2024. Program Flyer.

Projects are available in a broad range of disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, etc.) related to the three cornerstones of Quantum Technology: Quantum Sensing, Quantum Communications, and Quantum Computing.

This is a full-time, in-person research program. More information is available on the FAQ page.

Application Information

Check back in Fall 2024 for information on the summer 2025 program. See the How to apply page for instructions.

Applications to the program are welcome from all undergraduate students currently attending any College or University in the state of New Mexico who are interested in Quantum Technology research. Participants will receive a stipend of $7,000 for the summer. A limited number of housing stipends for students attending schools outside of the Albuquerque metro area will be available. Students from historically-excluded groups in STEM (including women, Hispanic, American Indian, and Black students) and students who are the first generation in their families to attend college are strongly encouraged to apply.
