Quantum Undergraduate Research Experience at CHTM (QU-REACH)

The QU-REACH Program at the University of New Mexico is a ten-week summer undergraduate research program run by the Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) and academic departments on UNM’s Main Albuquerque campus.

The first QU-REACH program was held in 2021 (2021 UNM Newsroom article, 2023 Update). So far 39 students have participated in QU-REACH from 6 schools (UNM, NMSU, NMT, NM Highlands, San Juan College, CNM) and 10 majors (Physics, Astro, Chem, ChemE, MechE, CS, EE, CompE, NucE, Biochem).

The 3rd annual QU-REACH program took place May 30 - August 4, 2023. Program Flyer. See the photos from the final poster session at CHTM.

Projects

Projects are available in a broad range of disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, etc.) related to the three cornerstones of Quantum Technology: Quantum Sensing, Quantum Communications, and Quantum Computing.

This is a full-time, in-person research program. More information is available on the FAQ page.

Application Information

For summer 2024, see the application info page for instructions on how to apply.

Applications to the program are welcome from all undergraduate students currently attending any College or University in the state of New Mexico who are interested in Quantum Technology research. Participants will receive a stipend of $7,000 for the summer. A limited number of housing stipends for students attending schools outside of the Albuquerque metro area will be available. Students from historically-excluded groups in STEM (including women, Hispanic, American Indian, and Black students) and students who are the first generation in their families to attend college are strongly encouraged to apply.
